Vodka in Russia is plain, clean and simple vodka without any added tasts (unlike in Poland where I've recently been), but it's pure and served in large glass. 5 cl is the standart size for a shot of vodla (in Denmark it's 2 cl).

Had a great day exploring the metro area and ended the day with a few drinks.

"Red Square" in Moscow. The name in Rissian: Красная площадь can mean either "red" or "beautiful" square, but but it is actually from the meaning "beautiful" that the square originally got it's name, partially due to the proximity of the imposing St. Basil's Cathedral, not becase of the West's association of communist countries with the label "Red." I took this "Detente" era photo in 1975 because the lighting made the night sky look red, and it made the moniker fit even better. No phto of me drinking vodka, but I did (the orginal Stolichnaya, no less).

Particular foods and drinks have been created (or become famous) in particular locations... there are a whole bunch of items on my bucket list to go to these places and eat these amazing foods, or drink these amazing drinks the traditional way!

Vodka is so quintessentially Russian, and I'm going there in 2011 so can't wait to try it!

I visited St. Petersburg in Russia from April 2nd 2012 - April 9th 2012, so of course I regularly drank wodka. Mostly mixed with cherry juice at the hostel after a tiring day of exploring the city.
