The wedding planning really began a week after our whirlwind engagement! Early on we set a venue for the reception, decided on our wedding parties, started planning the honeymoon, and had to choose between a few different churches.

I married the love of my life on November 5, 2011 and God has blessed us with two healthy boys (2year old and 18mo). Being married to my best friend is the most beautiful feeling. He and our boys are the only ones I need in my life(,: I am grateful that for him being so young, he stood up to the plate to take care of us. It was hard especially with our 1st pregnancy I was 18 and he was 16 when we got married. Leaving, he said, was never an option. There is not one thing I could ever complain about him. To me he is perfect and everything he does for our family we appreciate it all! I love my wonderful husband!!!!

We have never met before... She was a college student in Rapid City, and I was a Soldier in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill. We met over the phone, and fell in love. We talked for some time before I asked if she would like to start a family, and she agreed. Next thing I know, she was flying down to be with me, leaving everything she knew behind to be with someone she's never met. I told her that I would pick her up in a taxi and that Kay Jewelers had lost the ring I bought (which they did but got it that morning). Today was the day... I was in love and I wanted to show her how strongly I felt about her. I actually pulled up in a stretched limo with a special roof that made it look like stars, I had 4 dozen roses in the back seat, and I took her out to dinner. The resturaunt was closed but stayed open for me. We ate dinner and I order a sundae, to her surprise, with a ring on the top. I proposed and she accepted. We were married May 25, 2007 and have been together since then. We are still as much in love as we were that wonderful day.

Our wedding day was an interesting one to say the least, but the story starts about a week before the wedding. One week before the wedding, my future husband and I found ourselves without jobs. We were both teachers on temporary contracts at a time when there was a teacher surplus. Jake had proposed only days after I got this job, my first job, the August before. Now we were getting married and were unemployed. We had decided together to apply for jobs all over California in order to better our odds of both of us getting jobs. We applied to several places we would like to live, and several places where we would be satisfied to live until we could find something else. Los Angeles and San Francisco were both packed with teachers trying to find jobs so we applied everywhere else we could find; Sacramento, Davis, San Diego, Bakersfield, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Santa Cruz. We were completely willing to move. I applied to places I had never heard of, just hoping for a call back. My husband tried to apply to all the same places, but sometimes we missed a few. By the week before our wedding I had send out over 100 applications all over California.

We had decided that for the week before our wedding we were going to do a road trip together up the California coast from Los Angeles to where we were getting married, Monterey. We stopped in several small coastal cities along the way and spent time relaxing and enjoying being around one another. While we were walking through an antique store in Cayucos, I received a phone call! It was a call for an interview in Salinas, which is just around the corner from Monterey. I couldn't believe my luck! I asked the secretary who was calling me for the dates of the interview (since I was going to conveniently be in the area), and she said "Friday." I was heartbroken. I told her I couldn't do an interview Friday since it was the day of the wedding, and I asked if I could interview any other day. She told me the interviews were only being held Friday. I thanked her for calling and hung up. My husband and I went down by the beach and sat in our car. I looked up Salinas on my phone and was surprised to see that it was only 30 minutes from the hotel where we would be staying in Monterey. My husband and I had both thought Salinas was much further inland. Then a crazy idea came into my head and I ran it past my husband. He told me to do whatever was going to make me happy, so I called my mom. She told me the same.

So I called back that secretary and told her I was getting married at 3 PM on Friday. I needed the earliest possible interview appointment that morning. She finally understood why I had said no to the interview before and got excited. She asked if she could call me back. Within 20 minutes she called back and said she was going to fit me in between two other interviews. She was very excited for me. My interview was at 8:45 AM that Friday.

My future husband and I enjoyed our last few days of the trip, and I arranged for a friend to get into our apartment and bring interview clothes up to Monterey for the wedding. The morning of the wedding my mom drove me to my job interview. On the way to the interview I was nervously looking up information about the school, while my mom looked at apartment names along the road to keep in mind... just in case.

During my interview I was relaxed and happy. I was getting married, and I had the perfect practice interview. (If I thought of it as a real interview I was going to go crazy.) I remember that I kept moving the swivel chair back and forth as I answered questions and asked a few of my own. At one point one of the three people interviewing me asked me about my plans for the summer. I told them that the first thing I was going to do was get married. At 3 PM. That afternoon. They were surprised and congratulated me. They asked me about my husband-to-be, and I told them that he was a teacher as well. Two credentials: English and History. The Principal and Vice Principal both looked at each other and asked if he had applied for a job with the district. I said we both had, but that mine had been turned in earlier than his. The Principal looked through his papers and then looked up at me. "Can he be here at noon?"

Before I even made it out of the office, I was on the phone calling Jake. When he answered it was obvious I had woken him up. He was surprised when I told him he needed to get up, get dressed, and that he had a job interview at noon. He panicked. All he had was vacation clothes and a tux. I told him to just wear the tux, to make a point, but he wasn't having any of that. We put people into action to make this happen. Jake sent his parents to Kohl's to buy interview clothes, I printed out his resume and other information, then I handed it off to the best man to take to him (since I wasn't allowed to see him).

My mom drove Jake to his interview since she had already been to the school. She missed my hair and make up appointment. When my mom and I both met up back at the hotel she told me that Jake thought the interview went well and that he had totally been panicking the whole way. I don't blame him. It was a hell of an unexpected way to wake up on your wedding day.

We got married that afternoon, and everything went off without a hitch. We weren't scheduled to leave on our honeymoon for a week so we sat by the phone waiting for a call about the interview. The next Monday, at 7:30 AM we got a call from the Principal... we BOTH got the jobs!

My husband and I both work at the same school, and thanks to a few classroom assignment changes, even have rooms across from one another. We were so lucky and now live and work in such a beautiful place.
