It’s always been sort of a joke between my dad and me that the first thing I did when I turned 18 would be to jump out of an airplane. But as my 18th birth m started creeping, up my dad asked me If I was really serious about it, and I said why the hell not. Might as well start of my adulthood with a bang. So on my birthday I woke up early and skipped school to go to work with my dad so we could make it to Dillingham for our noon appointment with Skydive Hawaii. My stomach was in all kinds of knots as the reality of what I was about to do set in. When we got there it was pretty overcast, they told us to go ahead and sign all the forms and watch the safety video, and just wait to see if the weather cleared. So the first thing I did with my new legal powers was to sign a document saying no one would get sued if I died jumping out of a plane.

Unfortunately, the weather only got worse so they said we would have to come back another day, but they reassured us I would still get my free t-shirt for coming in on my birthday, so that was nice. The next time my dad was free, I skipped school again and we went back. This time we got harnessed and loaded into the plane right away, and then off we were, climbing to the jump zone. The nerves from last time were completely gone and all that remained was this uncontainable excitement for the jump. I couldn’t stop smiling and I was practically bouncing in my seat. The flight itself was nice. The weather was perfect and I even saw a pod of humpback whales breaching in the ocean below. Then a buzzer went off and it was go time. I was the last one out the door so I got to watch everyone gets sucked out and disappear into the open air. The cameramen flip up and cling to the outside of the plane like spiders to get the shot of their jumpers, it was all insane. Then it was my turn and I’m hanging over the edge halfway out the door, with this stupid big grin on my face ready to jump out on my own. The anticipation built up to almost unbearable even though I only crouched on the edge for a few seconds really. Then we were falling. And I screamed. It was a scream of pure unadulterated joy, and a little bit of I can’t believe I’m actually F**king doing this.

Hurtling towards the earth at 120mph was nothing, in fact, it's exhilarating. Having all your weight resting on your crotch was less fun. For me, I guess the straps didn't settle on me legs right and I spent half the glide down, once the chute popped, in pain. I tried to enjoy it the best I could, my tandem buddy let me steer for a bit and it was still amazing, but after awhile my thoughts strayed toward "how much longer till we land?"

He did eventually ask me if I was okay and I told about the discomfort, scariest 2 seconds of my life was him reaching to adjust the straps and then me all of a sudden dropping a couple inches in the harness, but the straps rested more on my thighs and OMG did it feel so much better! The rest of the glide down was amazing! We banked right over the beach were this guy was net fishing and waved high then swooped down to land.

Even with the discomfort to start, I would definitely go again, in fact, I plan to when my sister turns 18.

skydiving was always on my bucket list, and I finally went and did it out in Perris Valley, CA. I actually did 5 jumps, each one a little different— the first was on a big transport-type plane, but I worked my way down to a tiny Twin-Otter, where I actually got to stand on the leg struts before throwing myself into oblivion. Woot!

I feel like this one is on everyone's bucket list. I had always said I wanted to do it but never seriously thought it would be something I would accomplish. It just seemed so crazy and scary and who in the heck would go with me? Then I met Emrald. This girl is always up for an adventure with me...anything to get our adrenaline pumping. We kind of jokingly mentioned it to her mom and BAM!, the next week we found ourselves in the car, on the way to the Skydiving Center in Alabama, stomachs fluttering, jamming out to Van Halen's Jump on repeat. Almost as soon as our feet touched back down, we were planning our next trip out there. Mother's Day that same year we went again, this time with my mama in tow as well! It is almost a yearly thing now.

I have been scared of heights for as long as I can remember and never thought that I would go skydiving. I did it when I backpacked the east coast from Cairns to Melbourne in January – February 2016, with an Argentinean girl, Maite, that I met in my hostel. I was really calm on the day, everything was so normal. I boarded a small propel plane, the view was amazing we could see Whitsundays Island in the distance, and everybody was feeling the rising excitement. Then the door of the plane opened and I started to doubt my decision. Suddenly, I was sitting in the door opening and I was so scared. Where do I start to describe the feeling of being in freefall? It was amazing! It was one of the best experiences of my life! I really recommend to do it! I never thought that I would, but I’m so glad I did! It was just amazing!

I've always been afraid of heights, but I also always wanted to go skydiving. While the first couple of seconds after they open up the door and you jump were terrifying, everything after that was amazing. It was by far the best experience of my life, and I can't wait to go again.
