My mother & I were so tired of not having anything to do (or at least saying there wasn't anything to do), so one day we got super adventurous-feeing & looked into going rock climbing.
Instead of taking on the actual mountains in the real outdoors with wild animals, slipping rocks, and ditzy women, we called an indoor location for our beginners course.
They denied me the childrens rock-climbing wall, so I braved the might adult-wall & got all the way to the top. Maybe next time I'll dangle like a spider-monkey from the ceiling, but this was a good first-time accomplishment. Woo-hoo!
I was at Camp Mason in the 8th grade (October 2012). It wasn't anything crazy but it was really hard. The hardest part was trying to find a spot and realizing that if you left go you could fall. After trying to give up several times it was well worth it because the view was amazing at the top. And getting down was also fun!! I would love to go rock climbing again and this time it won't be terrified.
I was so nervous, borderline scared, of doing this but I'm glad I overcame it and did it anyway! I have rock climbed both on rock climbing walls and actual rocky areas in Northumberland, whilst I can say I'm glad I did it for the experience I'm not sure I'd do it again!
summer camp 2012/2013
i fell and scraped my butt since i was wearing shorts. never again.
So much fun! After the initial fear of heights (lasted about 5 minutes), I was racing to the top of the walls, and within two hours, I was free climbing (climbing without harness)!
Rock climbing was not the best first experience for me. Cold, windy...and on the indoor walls, too high! I started when I was younger and a boy hadn't paid attention thus letting me free-fall about 5 feet until an instructor noticed and took control. Hoping that at some point in the future I will be able to return to climbing! However, I do still love a bit of bouldering.
