Running a marathon has been in my mental bucket list for as long as I can remember. In September 2015, I finally bit the bullet and signed up for my first marathon for May 2016. I managed to rope my friends Becky, Heather and James into signing up and then the training began. I did the majority of my long training runs with Heather which helped me massively with motivation and speed! I enjoyed the majority of my training runs, however I can still vividly remember the pain of running 20 miles on the hottest day of the year and then going into work for a nightshift straight after with two fresh blisters on the soles of my feet.  Limping around work in pain and being beyond exhausted is anything but fun!  Training wasn't all bad- especially when it came to the carb loading and tapering ;) just kidding.

With all the training out the way, I took the train to Edinburgh and stayed in a lovely Airbnb with James, Precilla and Judy. I loved seeing the sights and I especially liked the tour of Edinburgh Castle. The deep fried mars bar was a pleasant surprise. I didn't have the guts to try haggis.

On the day of the marathon, I was very nervous and felt very queasy in the morning. Running the marathon wasn't as hard as I thought it would be - I think I did the right amount of training for my first marathon. Overall, it was a great success and I ended up completing my first marathon with a time of 4 hours and 9 minutes. To celebrate we all went to a pub and I had chicken and chips and a glass of red wine! Perfect.

It was so much fun! Although I felt sick in the morning I did pretty well. I participate at the "Frankfurter Stadtlauf" from Sportcheck.

Running a marathon is something I am pretty unsure I can actually do and something that will take months of training and dedication to accomplish. I consider this a "challenge myself" type of bucket list item.

Ran the SLO marathon on 4/27/2014 with Julie. Most difficult athletic challenge to date.

Started nicely, ended up being one of the hardest things I've ever done! Great views of the Eternal City! Posted a time of 4:55, keen to try for a faster run some time!

Thought I was going to die. But I didn't. The last 0.2 miles really matters.

We want to have kids but after 4 years of trying, doctor's, tests, modifying my exercise and diet, it still has not happened. So...I decided I would knock off a bucket list item and run a marathon, on my birthday. It was one of the greatest challenges and one of the greatest expereiences of my life. Enjoying the beauty of the Big Sur while accomplishing one of my life goals could not have been more fulfilling. It has inspired me to run more! Don't waste your life sitting around waiting on things to happen. Live your life to it's fullest. You only get one chance!

Do it with someone you're close with, or want to be close with. Because after training everyday together and running 26.2 alongside one another, I guarantee you you'll know that person inside out. And if you're lucky enough, have a friend for life like I do. Running the marathon was a hell of an experience that took a lot of training and determination, but crossing the finish line at 26.2 is a feeling like no other and is worth every minute of training that you put in.
