It's too bad that all of the castings have been moved to a museum in Naples, but it's basically an outdoor museum. I loved it.

The city of Pompeii, along with Herculaneum, was partially destroyed and buried under 13 to 20 ft of hot ash, pumice and mud in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.

It's a haunting place with perfectly preserved slices of ancient Roman life from a brothel to a hot food vendors stall.

Most startling and touching however are the remains of the inhabitants, some still crouching in despair as the hot ash of the eruption buried them alive.

Visited Pompeii when I went to Italy in 2010 with my school. Unfortunately do not have many photos of my trip as they all got lost from my computer. Luckily I printed them into photos before that happened

Amazing city. I really reccomend getting a guide to bring the city to life. If visiting in summer take plenty of water, it gets really hot. I can't believe the amount of phallic symbols the city has!!

Done! #7

It was awesome! Unfortunately many houses were closed but I really enjoyed it :3

It was a hot little cloudy day, the best weather to visit it!

I went with my sister, my parents and my brother-in-law. Too great!

(But no. Kit Harington wasn't there. You know nothing Kit.)

It's incredible how a town that was victim of that much destruction still contains so much life and history

Would absolutely love to go here again. Walking the cobbled streets with Vesuvius in the background was such a surreal moment for me. It was so quiet and peaceful and very easy to imagine the streets bustling with Romans. If I return I will make sure to give more time to quietly reflect on what is in front of me. The gardens and intricate mosaics are very beautiful.

Close you eyes as you meander through the streets, breathe the city, let yourself feel the history.

Such an incredible place to see! Although I ran into a wall and left with more than memories, the experience was great and see the artwork was amazing. I would love to make it back there.

Pompeii was a beautiful, haunting place. It was incredible getting to be in a place where there was just so much destruction and it had such a huge place in history.

Together with my best friend I went to Napels for a few days, and as Naples is close to Pompeii we could not skip that. So we went for a whole day and walked for hours between the ruins. Although it was insanely hot, it was worth it. And still we did not see everything. So I guess I need to go back one day.

It was so impressive to see the story of the city and to imagine what it was like to live there before and during the disaster. The mummies were, in my opinion, the saddest thing ever because you could still see the facial expression of horror.
