I have been in the military for 7 years. It is the hardest thing I have ever accomplished. At times it sucks, especially at 5:30 in the morning when I start hitting my snooze button.

In 2000 I joined the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program (ROTC) and they paid 2.5 years of my college tuition. I graduated in 2004 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and began my career as an Ordnance officer in the U.S. Army Reserves.

I deployed to Iraq for 1 year (August 2006-2007), where I met my Husband, and helped distribute food, water, ammunition to the Soldiers, contractors, and some local nationals in country. A few years after my tour of duty, I was promoted to Captain.

Having completed my 8 year contract obligation, I'm excited to report that I am leaving the Service on 31 October 2012 - happy, healthy, and with zero debt.

Condition of Discharge: Honorable

Inspired by kids 11-18 who I have run across involved in the Civil Air Patrol I thought I would look into the opportunities for adults to serve their communities through this organization.  Little did I know they have more adult members than kids!

I found out it is never too late to serve your country regardless of age.  I visited the Civil Air Patrol website http://www.gocivilairpatrol.com and found one of the squadrons in the area.  Attended a meeting and spoke to some of the adult members.  Completed the membership form, ordered the uniform and within several weeks completed the Level One Orientation course.  Now I'm able to seek additional training in a specialty track such as Public Affairs that I am interested in.  Having a lot of fun with maximizing the benefits with this bucket list item!

Great way to be trained to assist with search and rescues, disaster relief and more!  There are many ways to provide volunteer service to your community through this organization.  Check out the website for more details.

I joined the Air Force in 2001 and still serve active duty today! I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I have seen and experience things all across the globe that I probably would have never done had I not joined. Looking forward to the next 8 years!

Got an Air Force ROTC Scholarship.  Served almost 4 years in the Air Force (got out early to marry husband, whom I met on duty; didn't want to try to get "joint assignments") at Whiteman Air Force Base as a Missile Launch Control Officer.  Made it up the ranks as an Evaluator (called, "DOV"), and then "Senior Crew DOV Deputy", then went back to crew to become a Commander Launch Control Officer. Served during Operation Desert Shield (before Desert Storm).
