I spent a month in the Philippines and one of the first things we did was visit Donsol to swim with whale sharks. The resort is being built up and some of the places along the beach are beautiful. We went during the Filipino summer holidays, so it was very busy. However, it seemed most of the people couldn't really swim so it was fairly easy for us to keep up with the whale sharks and outswim the crowds.

There is no diving allowed in these areas to minimise disruption to the whale sharks, and although I am over the moon to be able to tick this off, I would still love to see one while diving!

I've always wanted to swim with a whale shark. I missed the opportunity in Western Australia in 2012 so we headed to Maldives in March 2015. We stayed on Madhibadhoo and swam with them on the outskirts of the South Ari Atoll.

Did this in Belize. The shark was much faster than me, so I basically watched it swim past me in awe and amazement. The sun was reflecting off its spots, and it was very beautiful.

The first time I saw whale sharks was in the Galapagos islands. This by far has been one of my most incredible experiences of my life.  However, the encounter was only brief but unexpected and unplanned, which made it all the more spectacular. My most recent experience has been swimming with them in Oslob Philippians. You swim with the whale sharks where they are hand feed by fisherman. This in itself is a unique and humbling experience. I saw a very unique balance of life where the fisherman saw the value of the sharks and where the sharks put full trust into mankind.

Loved it, was totally a life experience. the boat ride kind of sucks, make sure you take a good dose of motion sickness medication, the boat ride in mexico is usually at least an hour, on rough waters.

During the last week of our trip true Mexico, we (my family) decided to swim with whale sharks. Remember those are the biggest creatures on earth. So it all started in a small boat, after an hour we arrived at a spot where a lot (and I mean really a lot) of other boats were anchored. First you didn't see that much, but after a while you saw the water spashing and some body parts swimming in the water. We made groups of two, me and my mom and my brother with my dad. So who went first, ofcourse me and my mom. We jumped into the water and wow, once you put your head under water you saw those immense creatures. Not that scary, you are not that close and you only see a big body like thing swimming past you. The only time I was scared (also the last time I went into the water) was when I jumped into the water, put my head under water and the only thing I could see was an enormous mouth comming right into me. As you always hear my life was flashing by, not really. The only thing that I could think off was GET AWAY OF THAT ENORMOUS MOUTH. That was the last time I went into the water, after I just enjoyed the sun from the deck of the boat.

An amazing day that i will never forget!!

Woke up at like 6am to take a boat to the middle of the caribbean ocean off the Coast of Isla Mujeres. And honestly it was eye openeing to see these huge fish just swimming about. I was so scared to get in the water with them to begin with! But i plucked up the courage (my fear wasnt of these sharks but of some other coming and getting me) and with my trusty water camera i got some amazing shots of these elegant creatures!

Again i would tell anyone who goes to Mexico to do this! Life changing!
