I travelled to India in February 2013 and stayed there until mid way through March. It was the most beautiful, eye-opening, humbling and life-changing experience. I fell completely in love, unexpectedly, with the country and it's customs.

I lived in Faridabad full time, which is just outside of Delhi, and every day I travelled to a small school located in one of Faridabad's slums and taught children and young adults English. I absolutely loved doing it and it made me consider whether being a teacher of foreign languages (overseas) is something I would like to do as a career. The people I met whilst working in that slum, as well as travelling all over India, where the most genuine people that I have ever had the luck to encounter in my life. Unlike Western culture there was no need to be pretentious - there was no sort of 'status' there, just honest, inquistive, curious, kind-hearted and loving people. I felt so much love from those people in my time teaching at the school. I cried my eyes out on the day that I had to leave.

On the weekends I would travel to different parts of India. I made three really good friends, called Chris, Maisie and Sophie and we all just immediately got on. I doubt my trip would have been the same without them. We went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal (it rained, but the beauty was still there), Jaipur, Rishikesh, Varanassi, Delhi. The highlight was staying on sleeper trains, something the other travellers I was with detested but an experience I absolutely loved and never got tired of. I also relished overcrowded bus journeys and rickshaw drives, the lack of queues, the foul smells, even witnessing poor hygiene - simply because it was everything I was used to, completely turned on its head. Nothing could be further from Western Culture.

I travelled to India when I was in the midsts of a horrible depression, times where I felt so low I would go to bed not wanting to wake up in the morning (but always too scared to do anything further). I moved away from my home island  to England and still nothing changed. But when I went to India... it was like a light switched on in my head. I have never known happiness like it, I was not aware that one was capable of having such uninterrupted, unadulterated happiness like I experienced.

It was so beautiful, I dream about being back there all the time and I know that one day soon when I have the money I will go again. I will visit everywhere I went, and I will also go to Calcotta, Mumbai, Goa, Kerala and some other places.

I visited the Assam region of India on a seven night Brahmaputra River cruise. It was a life changing trip for me which made me reassess the way I live my own life and to be more grateful for everything I have.  We visited many villages, the Kaziranga National Park and the city of Kolkata.

Magic place, kind people and everything was very cheap. There was something very spiritual that I felt, I can 't describe it. Very unique experience, really deserve everybody to feel it!

I don't think this counts too much since I was born there but I have yet to travel outside my state so that portion is still on the to-do. Also, I have visited there a few times after being in the U.S.

Got to go to Bangalore for less than a week for work. Didn't get to go around, though. Hence, a different bucketlist item.
