Spent March 2015 travelling around California (with a visit to Vegas thrown in for good measure). We went from Los Angeles to Santa Monica to Orange County to San Diego to Las Vegas to San Francisco.

We stayed in Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco in a hotel that looked amazing online but made me feel like I was going to be murdered in my sleep.

Alcatraz wasn't as eerie as I was expecting (although I point blank refused to copy my husband and go into a solitary confinement cell) and some parts of the island, like where they had planted gardens were actually really pretty.

Visited Alcatraz with my boyfriend last summer when we made a road trip along the west coast of America. It was a beautiful day and the view from Alcatraz was so beautiful! Also, Alcatraz was very impressive!

8/12/17:  Bailey and I made a last minute mother-daughter trip to the Bay area on her last weekend before the new school years starts.  We covered a lot of ground, but the highlight of the trip was a trip to Alcatraz.  Both of us have been to the Bay area many times, but have never been able to get tickets to the island.  I paid extra to make sure that it happened this time.  And it didn't disappoint.  The audio tour is great.  Lots of fascinating history and beautiful views.  An added bonus was that, by chance, we met a woman who had lived there as a civilian (her father was a guard) when she was very little.  There were about 75 families who lived as a small community, all of them related to guards.  She had fond memories of life on the island.  Anyway, I am happy to say that I finally made it to The Rock.

We got to go on a ferry ride that took us to the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate, and lastly to Alcatraz.  Unfortunately we weren't able to get off the boat to walk around Alcatraz, but it was an awesome experience overall!

On our first full day in San Francisco, we took a walking/audio tour of San Francisco. It may have been a very tourist-y thing to do, but it was probably one of my favorite parts of the entire trip.

Great history lesson and intereseting facts given.

Would have been a scary place to be holed up. Busy, but, still able to have personal photos around locations without people getting in the way
