These past few weeks I have been beyond blessed to be in Costa Rica to run a Tico children's camp. No group of people has ever impacted my life more. Besides the difficulty of the spanish/english language barrier, we learned the first morning of camp that two boys did not speak at all; one of them was deaf. Any separations there were between anyone had entirely dissipated by the time we found ourselves saying goodbye for the last time and every child, every student, and every staff member was holding on to each other sobbing. I will never forget the bus leaving for the last time and watching all of the children in the bus turned around waving to us in tears. The children taught me that love and friendship have no language. We planned all of the activities ourselves, and then ran the camp. Seeing boys that are unable to speak a word laugh and smile because of something we did for them touched my heart beyond words. We learned to work past frustrations and all barriers: language or other. By the Tico children I have been hugged beyond count, kissed on the cheek, given gifts, nicknamed Tigre, and told I am loved and will never be forgotten. Every local I have met here has been so patient when I have struggled with spanish, and seemed so pleased that I chose to explore their country. They take such good care of their beautiful country that multiple times I have felt ashamed for my bad habits and lack of prioritizing nature above myself. I hope what the kids took away is to always try their hardest and that it is okay to fail. I hope we showed them how much they are truly worth and that they now understand as well as I do that love has no limits. Love overcomes all barriers. I believe that my time in this beautiful country has brought out the best in me, and I will forever be grateful for this opportunity.

Not really a Charity, but it was volunteering at an educational institution -- Safe Passage, or el Camino Seguro -- in Guatemala. It was a great experience: working with little kids who barely know any English was a great way for me to use my Spanish knowledge, and I had to push myself to help them out and to explain certain things in a way that they would be able to understand. These kids come from one of the poorest zones in Guatemala City, some of them have never been on a bus before, such different lives from our own. It is amazing seeing them smile and realizing that at least for a couple hours a day they get to enjoy their time together with their friends, which lets them get away from the difficulties they have to face once they have to go home. Guatemala, Spring of 2015.
