As many of you, I appreciate pireps from those of you with knowledge of shops you use (good or bad) and want to spread my experience for that contemplation on others at the same time. After a so-so experience after a recent avionics install, I found myself looking for an alternate avenue to the setting up a brand new transponder for ADS-B compliance. I called two local shops first. The price of one am high that I actually busted out laughing on the telephone like I were with a comedy bar. He was apparently significantly less amused when i. I was telling the storyplot of my local quote to some friend with the airport and the man recommended which i call John Stark at Stark Avionics for any quote. In doing my homework before calling John, I browsed Mooneyspace and BT for pireps about the shop. In doing so, I ran across a totally terrible pirep on Stark Avionics. (Search in BT if you'd like you just read it). This pirep caused me serious concern about whether or not to call Stark to get a quote.

I posted an over-all query for suggestions about an avionics shop and received another recommendation for Stark from another MSer (Oldguy). He and i also spoke regarding his experience with Stark and I chose to give John a call using the two recommendations I coming from trusted sources. I was open with John regarding my concerns regarding the negative pirep on MS and the fact that I had been gun shy in line with the previous experience. As they always say, there's two sides to every single story and John took his time for it to explain his side in my opinion much like me certain he can be prepared to employ anyone else who wishes to phone him constantly and need rest. Our conversation shifted through the pirep to pricing. John and i also discussed different equipment options, what would be perfect for my needs/wants along with the flat fee installed price for every option. We ultimately made a decision to install the Stratus ESGi for ADS-B in/out. John quoted me a soft price, but was up front how the number might be slightly higher in the event the tray was riveted in (as numerous Mooneys are). I went along to manchester airport that night, took pictures and confirmed that my trays were placed on screws and forwarded those pictures to John. John responded really timely manner and confirmed the flat rate price for your equipment and install written and we scheduled the install date and pickup date. The plane ended up being to be dropped off the Sunday after Thanksgiving. John said although except time ready by Tuesday, on the other hand opted to schedule the pickup for Wednesday just in case there are some snags as you go along.
