I adopted my first kitten, Bear, on August 9, 2019 from Help for Animals in Barboursville, WV and my second kitten, Apollo, on October 13, 2019 from the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Society. The kitten with stripes is Bear, and the chocolate brown kitten is Apollo. He appears to be black in the photo, but in direct light he's actually a dark brown. Both were born in May 2019. Both adoptions went smoothly, and I had no problems or delays in adopting the kittens. However, upon returning to Kanawha-Charleston a week later (as directed by the volunteer I worked with during the adoption) to have Apollo's shots updated (which I was told were included with his adoption), the volunteer who saw me was rude, and she told me that I could not have him vaccinated there at the shelter at all, let alone for free. She told me that I could see their veterinarian at a separate location for a fee, but I refused. I did not have this problem when I adopted Bear (Help for Animals). I was told his shots were included with his adoption, and had no problem seeing the veterinarian when I took him back, as directed. However, I will be taking them both to a private (trusted) veterinarian recommended to me by family for all future needs. As Kanawha-Charleston was rude and unhelpful, and Help for Animals has a lot of bad reviews; far too many to make me return with my pets. (Always read reviews before visiting a shelter or veterinarian! I had no idea of the number of other customers problems with HFA before adopting Bear.) Both cats are now being spoiled rotten, and are well cared for in their forever home. Cheers to all the years to come with my sweet boys!
