Unfortunately my friend who was like a brother to me passed away back in VA while my husband insisted that we needed to go to the funeral. Since driving and trains is about the only direct routes with stops in the city we were going to it was chosen that we or in this case my husband would drive us the whole way.
We left on Thursday and were needing to be there by Friday evening while there were planned stops for the night instead of making the whole drive in one night so we made it with tolls on the way there, which meant going through MO, IL, IN, KY and WV to get to VA whle making it to our destination just seven minutes late.
Once we left we chose to avoid the heavy construction that we had faced and the crazy tolls in WV by taking a longer more southern route that took us mostly through TN instead of WV while reversing our path home until we hit KS once more.
The trip was exhausting, especially after we ended up getting into Hurricane Barry coming up from LA and we ended up having to pull another night on the road. But we did make it home safe.
And although I was originally disappointed that it wasn't a trip to relax and get out to see things it probably meant the most to be since it was a people trip where I got to catch-up with some of the people who mean the most to me.
