The city has many homeless, but the vibrancy is still alluring. Fisherman's Wharf is very touristy, but worth a stroll. Purchase a shrimp cup and walk around to soak in the atmosphere. Walking the many hills to see the iconic "crookedest street" Lombard Street for a killer leg work out before you enjoy many of the city's fine restaurants. Loved Osha Thai restuarant which had an amazing sticky rice and mango dessert. Chinatown is noisy and a visual explosion, but good for a day's meandering.
The Ferry Building hosts an insane amount of restaurants, shops and interesting purveyors. One place was selling only mushrooms...another, you could get vegan cupcakes...gelato...fresh fruits & veggies...Boccalone had great salames and cured meats....flowers...the cheese place lets you try different cheeses.
For a light lunch we grabbed a variety sampler of the cured meats and some cheeses and sat looking out onto the ferries.
