I went on a trip to New Zealand with my Girl Scout Troop this past Christmas holiday, and our main reason for choosing New Zealand was for the sea kayaking. We originally wanted to do a whole trip dedicated to sea kayaking, but after exploring the multitudes of other thrilling activities available in New Zealand, we shortened our kayaking to two days. Well, the universe didn't agree with our choice, as once we were ready to hop on the kayaks, the rain and winds were too strong for us to get on the water. So, instead of kayaking to the houseboat we would spend the night in, we took the 4 1/2 hour hike there. Through the rain. Without being prepared to hike. And, with a gorgeous tour guide (: So, with all that hiking out of the way, we were looking forward to kayaking the next day. Luckily, the universe wasn't going to completely destroy our dreams and granted us about an hour of kayaking. We kayaked to a nearby beach and stopped there for lunch. On the way over, many of us got seasick (while the weather was good enough for us to kayak in, it was still pretty rough) and my kayaking buddy threw up into the ocean. Because of this, and the increasing wind speeds, the tour guide company decided it wouldn't be safe for us to kayak back. So, while the rain dampened our kayaking experience, the moments we spent on the water were absolutely stellar.
