While sulking over my rejection emails and waiting for calls from prospective employers, I found myself hanging around TED.  TED is my secret (free) therapist. Check youtube for free vids and you'll see what I mean. Learn more about TED on Few days ago, I found this inspiring talk by Jia Jiang on dealing with Rejection and Assertiveness. Here's his blog: What he did sets perfect example why you should be ASSERTIVE in asking for what you want, this lesson applies for both work and play. =)

I'm a new grad RN having trouble finding a new grad job here in California. There used to be this problem of shortage where recruiters go to India, Africa and parts of Asia to hire nurses. After the economy tanked last 2008, those non-medical grads started going into nursing for stability and those already nurses who are supposed to retire are keeping their jobs. As a result, there's more supply than demand. Competition is tough. They are requiring nurses they hired to go back to school to obtain higher education and the new ones acquire at least BSN. Aging population, obesity and increasing chronic diseases requiring nurses with complex skills and are able to function in all phases of care -- from acute stage to case management. Currently, I have 2 AS degrees plus practical and registered nursing license but here I am again, back to school to gain that competitive edge. I believe anything is possible with smart effort, hard work, patience and assertiveness. =)
