On 9-22-11 at the Sugar Factory at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, I got to do a meet and greet with Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley of Harry Potter). That was the first and last meet and greet I will ever do. It was so awkward! First, I paid $27 on a sucker which gave me a sticker to allow me to meet him. Then, I waited in line, in the hot sun, for over 6 hours and all I got was about 30 seconds with him. What a joke! They also said that we weren't allowed to get a picture with him, only of him. Even so, I'd say I got some great pictures:
And my friend got a great shot of the both of us!:
I had no idea what to say to him; what do you say to someone who knows why you are meeting them? While he was signing my autograph, I said, with a nervous laughter, "I don't even know what to say to you!" He and the guy to his right just burst out laughing. Not a cruel laugh, but one acknowledging the awkwardness of meet and greets. I continued "I think you're a great actor; I loved you in the Harry Potter movies. I *loved* you in Driving Lessons." At that, he perks up and smiles wide, nodding his head saying "Thank you so much!" As they start to push me out of the way, I add "And I can't wait to see Thunderpants; it looks awesome!" He nods excitedly again with a wide smile and says "Thank you so much! You're so sweet."
It was definitely the oddest celebrity encounter I have ever had, but in the end I got some great pictures and even a frameable autograph:
