I have never had children of my own and my niece is about to have a baby. It has been my greatest fear and I need/want to get over this fear. My niece has asked that I be her birth coach and I figured "why not" -
Well my great nephew was born on January 31, 2014! I arrived in Missouri on Wednesday, Jan. 29th. My niece went into labor the next morning. The hospital was an hour away so we left when her contractions were about 7 minutes apart. The hospital kept her for observation for about 3 hours. There was no change so they dismissed her from the hospital. With the hospital being an hour away from their home, we decided to get dinner, go to the mall and then go to another store. In the checkout of the other store (Hobby Lobby) my niece stated it was time to go back to the hospital: they kept her this time. She had her epidural at midnight. By 10 AM on Jan. 31st. her contractions were 2 minutes apart. By 11:30 she was in active labor and pushing. I was by her side the whole time. She did so good and was "a natural" it seemed. I counted and she pushed. She pushed for about 45 minutes and the baby came out. I will spare everyone details but it was an awesome, weird, cool and interesting experience. I would do it again! Just not me. He was 9 lbs 5 oz and 21 inches long with lots of feather soft black hair. He is perfect!
