Before I left New Zealand to travel overseas I was wandering through Vulcan Lane in Auckland one day with my sister. On the spot we decided to go into a tattoo shop. I talked to one of the artists briefly about the idea of getting Ferdinand the Bull after the story. We left and went down to Borders book store where I sat in a corner and traced it from the book and took it back to the tattoo shop where the artist copied it and tattooed it on my back.
Years later I was in a book store in New York with a friend while on holiday. I found the story of Ferdinand the Bull, told him the story an bought the book.
I've always wondered about having the tattoo finished so that he is sitting under the cork tree smelling the flowers.
