While I visited several cities in Italy, Rome was by far my favorite. I've never been to a place that felt more closely connected to history. The most amazing moment I had in Rome was when I visited the Roman Forum. As I strolled along dirt pathways amongst towering monuments with the Colosseum just in view, I was struck by a transcendent realization. I stood in front of the spot where Julius Caesar was allegedly murdered, and I suddenly fully became aware of the fact that I wasn't in just any tourist destination, but that I was standing just inches away from where one of the most powerful men in history may have stood. I was walking along paths that Ancient Romans had also traversed. I was nearly moved to tears by these thoughts, and I was so overwhelmed. Nothing can compare to that feeling, which is why Rome was such a special place to me.
