Arguably the most well-known landmark in Paris, and maybe even the entire world, the Eiffel Tower cannot be missed on one's first trip to Paris. Sadly, I don't remember much about this specific experience, but what does stand out in my mind is the bizzare commercialization of the tower. I couldn't walk more than five feet under or around the Eiffel Tower's base without passing an eager street vendor- each one had their own blanket covered with miniatures, keychains, or knockoff sunglasses and "designer" purses. A few more creative vendors carried around buckets of presumably very warm beer. Scaling the tower brought me further from the eager people hawking their wares, but it did bring me closer to another startling aspect: the Eiffel Tower food court. Never did I expect to find a small collection of cafes on one of the middle levels of the Eiffel Tower. Nevertheless, the Eiffel Tower is a destination practically designed to be on anybody's bucket list.
