I am guessing at the date, but I know it was in New York City in February 2001.  Actually, it was the same night that Dale Earnhardt died at Daytona, so it was definitely February 18th.  I know because a friend who was there also was watching the Daytona 500 in the hotel room right before we left.

Anyway, the event was the wedding of my former employer's eldest son.  It was held at the Pierre Hotel in New York.  I think perhaps it might have been originally planned for the Plaza Hotel, but my former employer was still mad at them for allowing Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones to get married there on November 18, 2000, the same night that he has holding his 60th birthday party at the Sherry Netherland and Cipriani right across the street.  Mad being the operative word if you know what I mean.

The wedding was a HUGE affair.  I mean huge to the tune of probably over a million dollars.  No expense was spared.  Of course it was black tie, so we all had to go out and buy new formal wear to attend.  But the reception was incredible.  I had never seen flowers like that in my life - maybe a quarter of a million dollars worth.  The food was all weird and tiny and unidentifiable, but tasted like nothing in this world.  The decorations, the guest list, everything. It was the opitome of opulence.  And in good taste.  A difficult combination.

And for a girl from Wagga Wagga, NSW in her first time in NYC it was more than I could have imagined.   I will probably never attend another party like that ever again.
