Quit refined sugar for three months

Done! I actually persevered for almost five months, selecting low-GI carbohydrates and completely eliminating refined sugar. (I still ate small portions of natural sugars, like in whole fruit and honey.) 

This goal was triggered by my doctor, who threatened me with diabetes unless I changed my eating habits. It was not easy. In struggling to quit, I realised the full extent of my body's reaction to sugar - how it affects my weight, energy, focus and even my mood! I saw that I used sugar as a social and emotional support mechanism. Thankfully, after about a month, my tastebuds gradually reset. I discovered the nuanced sweetness in whole foods. I also shed 3kg, mostly around my tummy, without even trying :)

These days I occasionally eat refined sugar, but I am extremely careful. I consider myself a recovering addict. This is the single most important thing I have done to transform my health - a bucketlist item that has bought me more time to tick other things off my bucketlist!
