While I was in Iceland in 2014, we went caving near the Blue Lagoon. On our way there, the landscape was breathtakingly different from anything you could find in England - black rocks littered the ground like crops would in a field. Once we had arrived, we changed into orange boiler suits and were given helmets with torches.

The caving was an incredible experience! At one point, the instructor told us to all turn our torches off, and it was absolutely pitch black, a darkness I've never experienced before. During our tour of the caves, we were shown the remains of a sheep from at least a hundred years ago, and we also had to crawl on our stomachs through tiny gaps. While that part was slightly scary and completely counterintuitive, the guides were amazing, interesting and professional.

When we finished the tour and exited the cave, it was hard to adjust to the sunlight, but we'd all had a fantastic time! We all had some scratches and bruises, but with the result of a fantastic day out.
